Don't Be Evil

The New York Times reports that Google is redirecting Internet traffic in China to uncensored sites, and removing itself from China.  Bravo.

Google stands to lose billions of dollars in  this move.  While it may be argued that this move could have some theoretical long-term benefit, such a case would be  untenable.  This is a bad business move as judged by just about any criteria.  This is a moral decision, not a business one.

I hope that over the long run Google benefits from this courageous act.
